A Trip to Pawhuska in Beautiful Osage County, Oklahoma

My Mom and I went to my cousin's baby shower in Wynona a couple of weekends ago. And since it's only about twenty minutes outside of Pawhuska, we, of course, went there first. Driving into Osage County, my heart and soul soared into the clouds. It's beautiful country, and for me, it's full of childhood memories.

We drove by Grandma and Grandpa's old house, which I feature in To Cross the Valley. Grandpa would hate that the new owners are parking in the grass!

We shopped at all the boutiques along Kihekah Avenue and Highway 60, had lunch at P-Town Pizza (Mattie's Place), and visited the Mercantile. Ree wasn't there. But she sure serves great grilled cheese sticks and tomato soup.

A cowgirl could founder in that town.

The pic on the left is dinner at the Merc. The middle and right pics are P-Town Pizza, the restaurant (owned by Ree Drummond) that I patterned Mattie's Place after. And those Not-Knots? Oh, man. I'd travel further than the hour-and-a-half it takes me to get to Pawhuska for them babies! Kudos, Ree! (Not that she'd be reading my blog, but maybe someday. Goals!)
